Have you ever had a phrase just keep pinging around your brain? For me, ever since our Lunar New Year reading with Kerry Rowett, “take your time” has been popping up again and again. Kerry gave us three big messages in her reading (which you can find at tashcorbin.com/508), but this one keeps resurfacing as a little intuitive nudge. It’s led me to a whole new conversation, which I want to have with you right here on the Heart-Centred Business Podcast.
Even if you missed Kerry’s Lunar New Year reading (or if you want to hear it again), I totally recommend checking it out. There’s so much gold in there. We dug into practical ways to bring those big messages to life, so go back and give it another listen when you get the chance.
From Kerry’s reading, three big principles showed up:
- Take your time.
- Stay in your lane.
- Trust the process.
But it’s that first one, “take your time,” that’s really stuck with me—especially in the past couple of weeks. I keep feeling like we’re not done talking about it yet, so here I am, picking it apart with new angles and fresh ways to think about it.
Let’s dive in!

Shutting Out the Noise: Your First Step
In the original reading, we talked a lot about shutting out the noise so you can claim back your time. That’s still super important, especially for business owners in this online space. There are endless distractions—algorithms, social media, news cycle, everyone wants your attention—and as business owners, we’re right in the middle of it.
To take your time, you’ve got to get serious about boundaries. Block out the distractions and protect your attention span. You don’t need to listen to every single thing happening. When you stop giving your time to all that noise, you get to reclaim it. We had a powerful conversation around this, and it still matters as much as ever.
The Deeper Layers of “Take Your Time”
Here’s what I’ve been noticing lately: Each word in that phrase means something different depending on where the emphasis lands.
When you put the focus on TAKE, it’s about claiming your time. No one is going to hand it over to you. You need to stand up for yourself, set boundaries, and decide where your time and attention go. It’s a powerful energy to lean into—take your time.
If you focus on YOUR, it reminds you this is your time. Your life, your business, your priorities. Why let yourself be last in line? I see this all the time when I run my planning group. Too often, your needs and goals take a back seat to everyone else’s. Are you structuring your days and weeks from the lens of “my needs come first,” or are you grabbing whatever scraps are left over? Even something simple, like how you start your morning—are you picking up your phone and giving your time to social media and emails right away, or checking in on what your own priorities are? This is your time, and you’re in charge.
You Decide How Your Time Is Used
You get to choose—will you give away your time by default, or will you intentionally design your day so you look after yourself first?
If you set up structures and boundaries, you can actually be more generous and supportive to others, because you’ve looked after your own needs first. This comes up again and again with clients who support mums, caregivers, or anyone focusing on self-care: when you prioritise yourself, you’re not just doing a better job for others, you’re role-modeling how to set strong, effective boundaries. It’s a win-win!
So, how do you feel about your time? Where in your day do you feel like your time isn’t really yours? Where are you letting someone or something else take it—and how can you take it back?
Treating Time as Your Most Precious Resource
And finally, if you put the emphasis on TIME, it’s about recognising that time is your most precious resource. There are two sides to this: the minutes and hours of each day, and the bigger passage of time across your life.
Are you respecting your time—each day, each year—with the focus it deserves? Are you being mindful about how you spend it, or are you acting on autopilot, only to reach October and wonder “Where did the year go?” If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep feeling that same sense of loss.
No magical fix here—just a prompt to notice where one quarter of the year has already gone. If you’re feeling like time has slipped away, now is the perfect moment to reflect and do something about it.
Take Your Time: The Prompt for Self-Reflection
I want to encourage you to turn inward and figure out which angle matters most to you right now. Which word in “take your time” brings up the strongest reaction? What are you actually going to do about it?
If you want an easy way to unpack this, I’ve got a Heart Shield template—a journaling resource with three stages:
- What you don’t want
- How you want to feel
- What you’re going to do
It’s the perfect tool for diving deeper into this reflection. And you don’t even have to opt-in; just grab it at tashcorbin.com/heart and work through the exercise.
What Will You Do With This Awareness?
If you’re feeling like time is flying by and you want to do something different, I encourage you to find a chunk of time, grab the Heart Shield resource, and journal it out. Maybe even re-listen to Kerry’s reading, too.
Ultimately, the power is in your hands. No one else will fix this for you. That’s always the most powerful outcome from any self-reflection or journaling for me—it leads right back to the question: so, what am I going to do about this?
I hope it’s just as empowering for you.
Until next time, I cannot WAIT to see you SHINE.
