Something I absolutely love about being a business owner is how much of what we do turns out to be a co-creation. Today on the Heart-Centred Business Podcast, I want to share five big lessons from Kickstart 2026, the January event I ran, which felt like a true co-creation with everyone who participated. These lessons are powerful and grounded, and they show us how to build businesses that feel more aligned, create a sense of momentum, and help us get unstuck from that never-ending to-do list feeling.
If you’re new here, Kickstart is an event I’ve run every January for several years, and we also repeat the process in May as Biz Boost. It’s all about generating momentum and focusing on the most important tasks as business owners.
And since this is #Tashmas Day 4, I have a fabulous gift for you at the end of the episode!
Wait… What is #Tashmas?
I do it for both my birthday (1-12 March) and pre-Christmas (1-12 December) every year! Every day from now until my birthday on 12th March, there will be a new daily podcast episode, with a hot tip or practical strategy as per usual… but you ALSO get a gift! I love sharing the birthday vibes, and what better way to do that?! The daily gift could be a freebie, a special offer, a competition… but there will be something for YOU every single day.
Let’s dive in…

Lesson 1: If Something’s Not Working, It’s Not YOU Who Needs to Change
This first lesson landed big time this Kickstart. If something’s not working in your business, it’s not you who needs to change. I know I’ve said this in sixteen different ways over the last couple of years, but this time, it really took root.
Here’s what tends to happen: You struggle to get your podcast out consistently, and then decide, “I need to be more organised.” Or you get frustrated because you’re behind on client notes and end up hating your business—and yourself—over it. The solution starts with recognising and actually embodying that belief: it’s not me, it’s the business that needs to change around me.
Too often, we look for books, strategies, or programs to “fix” ourselves. “I want to be more disciplined, I want to have better habits, I want to think more logically…” Sound familiar? Instead, it’s actually easier to reduce the workload, change the systems and structures, and adjust the supports around you.
At Kickstart, we saw when people spent the week changing their systems and supports instead of trying to change themselves, the shift was straightforward. One example: Getting the podcast out every week could be as simple as making it a once-a-month thing, or dropping perfectionism about making it a video podcast.
You don’t need to do things the way everyone else does.
You are not what needs to change! And when you recognise that, the system and structure changes can be simpler than you think.
By the end of the week, people had breakthroughs like, “If I get my team to do X, I won’t have to do Y,” or, “If I switch to audio-only for six months, I’ll get momentum without stressing about being camera-ready.” That shift was huge.
Lesson 2: Busy Doesn’t Mean Productive—Rest IS Productive!
Busy isn’t automatically productive. Rest is productive time, especially for business owners.
This hit home for a lot of people who are usually workaholics. They might say, “Sure, I’d love to take the afternoon off—but I’ll feel better if I push through my to-do list.” But this time, they realised that taking care of themselves, giving themselves downtime, actually made them more effective and productive the next day.
I heard stories like, “I was mad I hadn’t finished just two tasks, and normally I’d work late, but instead, I let it go—and everything was fine.” Sometimes, we just need to take a leap of faith and see how rest actually helps us work better.
Another important part: When you treat downtime as wasted, your brain will collect evidence to reinforce that belief. If you sit on the couch watching Netflix but guilt yourself the whole time, you’re just reinforcing a negative mindset.
What we do in Kickstart and Biz Boost is use anchors and mindset strategies to practice collecting evidence that rest and downtime are productive. Even two people with the exact same day will feel totally different about it depending on what “evidence” they’re collecting! Busy doesn’t always mean productive. Collect evidence that rest is powerful for your business.
Lesson 3: Flood the Zone (How Content Creation Really Works)
Lesson number three came from our content creation actions. So many of the business owners I love and follow are starting to shrink their presence online. There’s more perfectionism—people are filtering what they share, worrying about whether it’s valuable enough, and saying things like, “I don’t want to add to the noise.” I get that, because the internet feels loud right now.
But here’s the twist: Is the right response to all the divisive or problematic content out there to stay quiet? I don’t think so.
Let me share an example from Project 2025 (from the US political scene): Their “flood the zone” strategy meant keeping the news cycle full of distractions to stop people from seeing the bigger picture. This kind of content gets engagement—rage bait trains the algorithms! But here’s where we take back power: We can flood the zone with supportive, uplifting, helpful content, and engage mindfully with the content we want to see.
The algorithm responds to us.
If we avoid clickbait and rage bait, we train it to feed us better content. We have more influence than we realise.
Personally, I’ve closed my Twitter and Threads accounts, focusing instead on platforms where I feel hopeful—and for me, that’s Facebook. When I post, I’m doubling down on sharing helpful content and engaging in ways that train the algorithm to show me and my audience what we want.
Kickstart participants found this a major takeaway, and it helped curb resistance and perfectionism around posting. And here’s something else: If a 26-year-old guy has a random thought at the gym and shares it online without a second thought, why do we second-guess ourselves? If you have an idea, share it. If you have a question, ask it. We don’t need to wait for perfection or a fully formed thought!
It’s not censorship from social media that will silence us—it’s our own self-censoring. And the more we look for evidence that we’re being “suppressed,” the more we’ll find, and the more helpless we feel.
I truly believe there’s so much hope and optimism out there. If social media disappeared in a year, I’d want you to look back and say, “I made the most of it while I could.” It matters that we show up. If you’re worried your lunch photo is “too ordinary,” I promise, I’d rather see that than another red pill rant online!
Social media can be heart-to-heart connection again, and we need to create that together. Flood the zone isn’t just “post more”—it’s about sharing and engaging consciously, with intent.
Lesson 4: The Simplest Tasks Aren’t Just “Nice-to-Have”
This one was fascinating. When I talked about prioritising tasks, some people figured their big projects—like building funnels or rebuilding their websites—were the most important. That led them to neglect little things, like following up with clients who said, “Maybe next year” or replying to comments on social media.
Those tasks got pushed aside as “nice-to-have,” while the shiny big projects seemed critical. But often, following up with a few hot leads or nurturing existing relationships brings in results much faster.
During Kickstart, people delayed new projects, got their lead generation and follow-ups sorted—and saw money flow in quickly. It turns out you don’t need huge projects to spark big results. Sometimes, your mailing list is full of people who are ready, but you just need to nurture them.
As people shared their wins—a few follow-ups leading to sales—others were nudged to try the same. It really shifted the way we prioritise tasks and showed the power of those “small” actions.
Lesson 5: Give Equal Time to All Stages of Client Attraction
The fifth lesson was about balancing your time across the stages of client attraction: reach, nurture, invite, convert. A lot of people realised they were spending hours trying to grow their audience, or constantly pitching new offers, and neglecting nurture and invite.
But when you bring balance—spend time nurturing relationships and extending personal invitations—sales happen more easily. For most people, the problem isn’t audience size; it’s connection and proactive lead generation.
We saw that balancing your content, strategy, and time across all stages made a huge difference. It’s not about only reaching more people or only focusing on conversions—nurture matters!
Bonus: Business Feels Different When You Create Calm
Here’s a bonus lesson. Many Kickstart participants also work with me in ongoing programs. One of the biggest reflections since Kickstart is how spending a week in a calm, nervous system-friendly space changed everything.
Being part of a group that’s focused on collecting positive evidence and acting from powerful CEO energy makes such a difference. Instead of panicking when you forget to email someone or miss a task, you can simply ask, “Where did the system fall over?” It’s not about beating yourself up—it’s about fixing the structure and support.
One VIP client said, “If you ever offer a way for me to tap into this every week, I’m in!” She realised just how mean she was being to herself, and how much she catastrophised tiny mistakes. Now, instead of collecting evidence she’s no good at business, she looks for ways to improve the system. It’s amazing how quickly the switch flips when you spend time in that kind of supportive space.
Those are the big lessons from Kickstart 2026.
