Hello, fabulous entrepreneur! It’s Tash Corbin here, and welcome to episode number 128 of the Heart-Centred Business Podcast.
Today, we’re talking about how YOU can be seen as an EXPERT in your field.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FREE RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS PODCAST MAY NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE.
In the online business world, there’s so much talk about social proof and expert status. There’s this belief that if you have major reach, if you have written a book, if you get on Sunrise, then you’re magically going to get lots and lots of clients in your business.
Unfortunately, that just isn’t true.
And the online business world and landscape is changing really quickly.
Social proof and expert status just don’t necessarily have the weight that they used to anymore because there are so many more online entrepreneurs. There are so many more “experts” out there, and to be honest with you, anyone can self-publish a book that helps them to have that credibility.
So, a lot of people are a little bit more discerning about who they want to work with and who they choose to work with, and those elements of social proof and expert status aren’t necessarily achieved the way that they used to be.
So if you still think that you need to write a book, or you need to get yourself onto network television, or you need to do any of those things in order to be credible as a service provider, then this podcast episode is probably going to be really good for you.
Because today what we’re going to do is unpack what social proof and expert status really mean, and how you can build yourself up as the go-to person in your industry without the need for getting everyone to admire you. Or they need to get that social proof and expert status in that old-school kind of tricksy way.
I think that the move away from the admiration marketing…
The “I’ll have what she’s having.”
“Oh look, she’s got perfectly manicured eyebrows.”
“Oh look, she’s on a boat, so therefore she must be successful. So, therefore, I need to work with her.”
I think it’s pretty clear where we’re going with this.
I think, at the end of the day, what we’re looking for is to work with someone who’s going to help us achieve the outcome that we want to achieve.
And you standing on a boat, or you being on Sunrise, or you having a fancy schmancy book, no longer answers the question,
“Will this person help me?”
And that’s why the move away from expert status and admiration marketing is probably on the rise.
I think this is very related to the kind of increased surge to a more feminine strategy in business particularly amongst the #ladyposse and our circles.
People aren’t looking for those silver bullet strategies, those ways to create that admiration’s phase, and that disconnected way of marketing.
They want to be able to market in a really feminine, connected, and magnetic way.
And that’s what I love about working in the online business world, in particular, surrounding myself with the amazing #ladyposse.
Because it’s not a competition on who can have the fanciest clothes. Or the best backdrop. Or the perfect lighting, or all of those sorts of things.
That’s not what we’re about.
We want to be of service, and we want people to understand that we are going to be able to support and help them achieve what they want to achieve.
Now whilst it’s a big relief that you don’t need to create that admiration or have all those perfect things in place in order to be successful, how do you create momentum in the market? And how do you grow your online presence in a way in which people actually believe that you can help them and they want to buy from you?
1. Work on CONNECTING
Connect fast. Connect wide. Connect lots with lots of other people in your industry as well as in your target market.
The more that you show up and be of service, the more you create that Know, Like and Trust factor and the more connected people are with you.
This requires you to get clear on two very specific things:
i. Who is your very specific, very clear niche? Who are those people who LOVE exactly what you’re doing – they need it, and they’re ready, able and willing to invest in it?
Who are those people and how can you speak directly to them?
ii. What is your core message? Now, a lot of people with their messaging try and use these shiny, sparkly, magical words.
But actually, what you’re doing is creating a disconnect. You’re disconnecting through your language because if you talk about things like “embodying your divine, feminine essence”, people don’t understand what that means.
We want to be able to visualise or imagine or understand the problem that you solve, and the solution that you present.
So whether you work with people in business strategy. Or marketing. Or you do help people with their feminine energy. Or you’re a healer, or whatever area that you’re working in, being able to articulate really clearly for your perfect niche what the problem is that you solve, how you solve it and the solution or the aspiration that you help people achieve, is crucial to creating that connection.
Be clear on your messaging.
Be grounded in your messaging, and help to solve people’s problems.
The more you can articulate that clearly, the more effective your marketing strategy will be.

So there are three key shifts that we make here:
1. Moving away from admiration and disconnected marketing to connected-based marketing
2. Getting clear on your message and articulating really well for your niche exactly how you add value to their lives, and then
3. Building that strong network fast. Getting out there and meeting lots of people. Becoming known for the work that you do in your industry.
Maybe you need to create your own events.
Maybe you need to network more effectively online. Join Facebook Groups, and give lots of value in your zone of genius.
But build a strong network fast.
So they’re the three key strategies.
But at the end of the day, the fastest way that you can become known as the go-to person for the thing that you do is to get clients.
The more clients you have, the more people you help and serve, the more effectively you then get at marketing your work and communicating the outcomes that you’ve helped people achieved, the more people who are out there spreading the word about your amazing work and what it is that you do.
So in all of these, instead of hiding yourself away and trying to write that book and pitching yourself to mainstream TV all the time… Trying to get on eleventy billion different podcasts and working on all of these stuff behind the scenes… Make sure that you are actually out there telling people how you can help them, how much it will cost, and the problem that you solve.
Get out there. Find clients. Start working with people.
Because at the end of the day, that is actually the fastest way to be seen as the go-to person in your industry particularly in this highly connected, everybody-knows-everybody online business world.
